Hello everyone!

YAY JOURNAL SKINS! GET YOURS NOW.

Well, in recent news, the typhoons following Ondoy/Ketsana were considerably weaker and did not hit Metro Manila again. Hooray! Rebuild time. My family sent eleven jumbo boxes of clothes and food that we rallied together with our friends. Our house was a packing factory for weeks. The boxes will reach there in 45 days. *hum drum*

Personal news! I'm well along on my secret writing project that I love like a child. :) You'll probably never see it in its entirety online, for fear of PLAGERIZZAZZ. D: But it's 6,000 words along-- the longest I've ever committed to a project. Because it's so easy to maintain an emotional dump! Only a total of two people have read the entire piece. It's gotta keep is magic! I'll keep it in hopes it gets published one day.

Somedays I will bow out and say I'm not a writer, cause I suck at technical essays. I'm just an artist for that day.

Other optional personal news: Currently working on the 'happy', cause it's not really there for me right now. For the past six months. I attibute the extended mood swing to my visit to the Philippines-- I thought I would have more respect for my life, but now I see just how strange it is, and all I feel is disgusted with it. Yuck. All those feelings get fueled into my writing project. Some sort of creative output for my yuckyness.

Anyways, school is kicking my booty. But Art class is what I look forward to the most in my day. :D

Grades can kiss my grits.

Super Typhoon Parma

...is forecasted to rise to a Category 5 before this Saturday. Manila, Philippines already looks like Atlantis from Tropical Storm Ketsana that blew through last week. Ketsana disabled public transportation and communications for one day. Reports of the water level range from waist-high to over-head. A week later, the water is still sitting. Cars are immobile, first floors are flooded to the ceiling. My friends and family are still hanging in there, however a few of my friends have already lost their houses.

The president has opened the Palace for relief and space for refugees. I think there are some troops there giving out supplies. But it's not enough until Parma comes. There's a chance Parma will swerve and miss the Philippines altogether. Let's hope.

Facebook and Twitter are flooded as well-- with messages directing help to addresses or seeking lost family members and friends. Technology is a wonder these days.

And I'm hoping dA can raise the awareness as well. I've seen some striking photographs already of the aftermath of Ketsana. I plan on writing about my experiences in the Philippines and also about my family there. I hope that's a promise I can keep.

I think we owe it to the people that have lost their lives doing what they can to immortalize their experience in art. This is not something to be ignored.

Besides that, I don't know what to say.

Down and Out... But Not in Vegas

  • Listening to: Elephant Gun - Beirut
  • Reading: PKD's A Scanner Darkly
  • Watching: Waking Life
  • Playing: Iron Man something something
  • Eating: My words.
  • Drinking: Juice!
Every so often, I get a comment or a :+fav: in my messages that links me back to something I wrote or drew in the past 3 years and I think

“What was I on?”

So, as a representation of my current art skill (oh ho ho as if that ever changes), I will try to post more little works of art even as they are WIPs. :D
Art class stuff! Who’da thunk you could post that, right? Ma’s smart. ~preada58

In review, this summer has been less than productive for me, however it was more of a Taking-in experience than a Creating one. Highlights would be the Philippines (of course), reading Phillip K Dick's A Scanner Darkly and watching the BA movie itself (OH KEANU REEVES! :faint:), and pondering through another Richard Linklater film (A Scanner Darkly, School of Rock) entitled Waking Life, which was very good. :D

It did feel kind of weird when I got home after a month-- so much has changed, new couples, break-ups, pregnancies, miscarriage, hospital visits, family vacations, etc. Even now, now that I've seen the other side of the world again, I feel like I don't really belong here. *shrug* Feeling a little 'ehn' lately. I'll be okay.

Anyway, I found my first best friend, after 10 years. Haven't heard from him since I was 5! That made my year. XD

Hoping to return to the hometown someday, because, HEY! Ohio is for lovers. I might be the only person who listens to that song anymore. :giggle:

Reporting live from Manila, Philippines!

Everything is going swell, even as we don't have hot running water or centralized air conditioning.
So as to keep this art-related: I bought a new sketchbook here at the great National Bookstore, and I hope to doodle something up soon. I'm here with my little cousin too, a great artist, who seems to have more respect for every piece of art she makes than I do for mine. XD

Amazing.
The world is really big.

Best wishes to all.
